X Factor's Cher Lloyd tipped for the win

OVERNIGHT singing sensation Cher Lloyd from Malvern has most of the UK talking about her following her X Factor debut.

The 17-year-old wowed the judges when she made it through the first round of the TV talent show on Saturday night.

Judge Louis Walsh said she was born to be a pop star, while Cheryl Cole told her: “You are right up my street. You are actually my favourite audition so far.”

The former Dyson Perrins CE Sports College pupil, who lives in Malvern with her family, is already the bookmakers’ favourite to win.

Paul Todd, manager of Sin Bar where Cher took to the stage in the Text Factor competition earlier this year, said: “This is fantastic for Cher and fantastic for Worcester. Whether she wins or not, she’s got the nation’s attention.”

More than 36,700 people joined Cher’s fan group on Facebook over the weekend and thousands more are talking about her on the social networking website Twitter. Even celebrities are backing her.

Chart-topping rapper Tinie Tempah said: “Just watched Cher Lloyd’s X Factor audition. Love it. New generation, new era, new age, new culture. Good luck, hun.”

American R&B singer Ciara sent her a message saying: “We all start somewhere. Keep believing. Dreams do come true.”

Even England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, whose wife Jessica Taylor was a member of pop group Liberty X, is supporting the local teenager. He said: “Here’s a big shout. Cher to win X Factor.”

Speaking after the audition, Cher told the programme’s viewers she was “on top of the world”.

She said: “It was amazing and everything I’ve ever wanted.

“My audition went really well, better than I expected. I didn’t think I’d get those comments at all. It’s all a bit of a whirl. Cheryl Cole was really interested in what I do. I think it’s about time people heard from me. This is my big chance.”

On Monday she was interviewed live on ITV’s This Morning and revealed that she is already getting recognised in the street.

It’s not the first time Cher has impressed an audience. Earlier this year, she came second in the X Factor-inspired Text Factor contest. In 2008 she was named best solo female at Worcestershire’s Pop Idols competition and in 2007 she also won a high school talent contest.

David Griffin, headteacher of Dyson Perrins, said: “She’s a very talented young lady. She contributed to many of our art showcases, performing herself and encouraging and motivating the youn-ger students. We’re delighted by her success. It’s well-deserved and we wish her every success in the X Factor.”

Having got through the first audition, Cher has now taken part in the programme’s boot camp. Filming took place earlier this summer but the public won’t find out if she made it through until the show is aired on ITV later this month.

Must be me then, sorry, but I thought the audition was awful - an absolutely terrible song, whatever the version.

I agree Logik, i thought it was just a bit weird..what's with all the strange faces? Is this what we have to look forward to with the future of music?

I am afraid I agree with the above and she did seem very odd when interviewed on the TV yesterday and those strange faces she pulls why ? Still each to their own I suppose we shall have to see what happens, don't build her up too much it is a long way to fall, see what happens when the public start voting.

PinkFluff you are probably right...we should not knock the funny faces, Mick Jagger has been doing it for years. I think its just boredom of the X-Factor and the charisma-free "artists" it churns out.

Good luck to the lass but not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I agree with the face pulling comments. I actually found myself cringing and looking away from the telly! Despite all the acclaim, I can't see her making it too far.

I really liked the audition. She's young and talented with great voice for the song. Actually, I really liked this version than any others. So please I would like a full version of your song.
I just can't wait to see her in concerts doing her "thing". There is some competitors out there, but if she doesn't win the X-Factor she'll still be successful in her singing career.

Keep practicing and you'll reach the top.

Best of luck.

Shes great but I wish she give the Cowell (who is basically a Camp, opportunity knocks, Hughie Green) the stiff finger and walk off a show that encourages bullying and humiliation.
Cher would be better of making her own way in the music industry then being associated with the X-factor.
Lets face facts, X-factor is karaoke for Sun readers. Any one with the real "X-factor" should avoid the show like the plague.
It will be sad and a waste to see Cher in one or two year scrabbling around opening another Londis or garden fete' once Cowell has spat her out for a more profitable product of his insipid, soulless pop machine.

I'm just trying to think if there's ever been a worse tv program....maybe big brother...either way, it sums up what a very sad celeb obsessed nation we've turned into. Trying to turn these kids into 5 minute wonders, before the media rip them apart by digging up the dirt! Any program that requires the audience to phone in and vote should be banned!! If these people were good enough to make it big, they would do so.... whether they were on these life-sapping programs or not! But the tv companies aren't stupid, the phone-in votes make them millions of pounds and the simpletons are happy to dail the on screen numbers!!

@pinkfluff, I must be showing me 13 year old age then :), much prefer proper electronic music, The Chemical Brothers, now there's music for you.

@Whyme, I've never seen such a switch of mind-frame in a few years of the term of "Big Brother", before it was a very politically charged term, now it's synonymous with that dreadful TV show.

Cher Lloyd gives it her all during her X Factor audition STAR QUALITY: Hugely talented former Dyson Perrins CE Sports College pupil Cher Lloyd proved to be the big sensation on Saturday’s X Factor talent contest.
