LITTLE miracles are at the heart of a new fund-raising bash.

Parents Kate and Duncan Branchett, of Bath Road, Worcester, are organising the concert on Sunday to raise cash for a new regional neo-natal unit which will care for the most poorly babies.

The couple were inspired by their own heart-rending experience to set up the Brass 4 Babies event featuring music from Stourport-on-Severn Brass Band at Stourport Civic Centre in New Street.

All the money raised will go to the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Tiny Babies Big Appeal to fund the new unit.

The hospital is the nearest to Worcestershire that is equipped to care for very early premature babies, but is so busy it needs a new centre to cope with increasing demand.

Mrs Branchett was 22 weeks and four days into pregnancy when she gave birth to the first of her non-identical twins Isabelle ‘Izzy’ on Thursday, July 23.

She lived for only 35 minutes and weighed just 1lb 1oz (480 grams). The 29-year-old mum had to be transferred from Worcestershire Royal Hospital to Birming-ham where daughter Molly was born 17 weeks early on July 31, weighing just 1lb and 4oz (562 grams).

Since then, Mrs Branchett has penned a blog about Molly’s progress and co-founded a support group Calling All Little Miracles.

“Both me and Duncan were in the band before we had Molly, but when I got pregnant we left because we knew we wouldn’t have time,” she said.

“But while we were in hospital we found out about the appeal and thought the band could help.”

The concert, including performances of popular music, starts at 7pm with tickets available from the Kidderminster Town Hall box office on 01562 732158.
