A MAN who went round to his mum’s house to have a bath ended up in a fight with his stepfather, a court was told.

Jamie Cornes, aged 23, of no fixed address, visited his mum’s house in Landsdowne Close, Malvern, on Sunday, September 5.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Cornes had been staying at a bed and breakfast but had gone to the address to have a bath and borrow some money.

He said Cornes ‘exploded’ at his stepfather, telling him ’I will kill you’.

“Mr Cornes grabbed hold of his jumper and punched him in the chest. He then kicks him in the leg and misses with an attempted headbutt,” he said.

In police interview Cornes admitted striking his stepfather in the chest but denied the attempted headbutt and making threats to kill him.

Mr Dodson said Cornes was on police bail for a number of theft matters when the assault occurred.

Barry Newton, defending, said: “Its fair to say, he and the stepfather have never really seen eye-to-eye. The argument was over the use of a razor.”

Cornes admitted assualt on the basis there was no attempted headbutt or kick to the leg.

The crown prosecution service did not accept the basis but magistrates decided it would not affect sentencing.

Cornes was released on conditional bail to reappear on Monday, October 4, on the condition he operates with the probation service and does not enter Landsdowne Close.
