FAMILIES can take a walk on the wild side in an ancient Worcestershire wood.
Worcestershire County Council’s Bishops Wood Centre is opening up its woodland to give people a chance to learn about trees, their folklore and properties, as well as take part in a walk with traditional and not-so traditional stories about trees, on Sunday, September 19, from 2pm until 4pm.
The event, organised by the Friends of Bishops Wood, is extra special because the woods are not usually open to members of the public.
John Rhymer, head of the environmental centre, said: "There is a huge amount of folklore surrounding trees which were so important to our ancestors. Much of this folklore was passed down orally in the form of stories and we continue this tradition at Bishops Wood. We even have some new stories to tell."
Entry to the centre, off Bishops Wood Lane, Crossway Green near Stourport, is £3 for adults and £1 for children.
