IT’S time to dust off those old family heirlooms and find out what they are worth to help raise money for a Worcester hospice.

Acorns Children’s Hospice has teamed up with experts from Halls auctioneers to host an Antiques Roadshow-style event at the Guildhall this week.

The charge of £2 per item valued will go to the hospice, which cares for nearly 600 children who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

The city’s mayor, Councillor Mike Layland, will welcome experts and visitors to the historic building on Friday. The event runs from 10am to 2.30pm.

Coun Layland said: “This will be a wonderful opportunity for people to have their valuables assessed.

“Perhaps one of them will discover they are sitting on a fortune.

“It will not only be a chance to discover a bit more about antiques, but also to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.”

The Halls team includes fine art director Jeremy Lamond, who specialises in furniture, ceramics, toys, clocks and militaria.

William Lacy is a paintings and books specialist and Christina Trevanion is the company’s jewellery and silver expert.

“We are delighted to team up with Acorns Children’s Hospice and the mayor of Worcester is providing a superb venue,” said Mr Lamond.

“We hope the public turns out in force to support the event, as all the proceeds will go the hospice.

“This valuation day is an ideal opportunity for people in around Worcester to come and show us their family heirlooms, paintings, pottery, silver, jewellery and toys.

“We have found several important and valuable items in Worcestershire in recent years.

“If anyone has items that are too big to bring along on the day, they can simply show us photographs or we will be happy to arrange home visits after the event at no additional charge.”
