CHILDREN at a Worcester primary school celebrated the return of hot school lunches with a pink custard day.

Pupils at Northwick Manor Primary School in Northwick Road have been enjoying school lunches since the start of term after a new kitchen was installed there.

Members of Wyvyern FM were at the school to help celebrate the opening and to continue the station’s quest to find out which school serves the best pink custard.

Headtreacher Sian Williams said the meals were proving popular.

“We launched the hot meals service at the beginning of September and they are on a three-week cycle, so we are back to week one and really pleased with it all.

“Out of about 600 children we are serving 200 meals a day and I feel it has gone down really well.We make sure that we are using fresh food and local producers.

“We have also employed two catering supervisors, and they are also doing a terrific job.

“The meals are also nutritionally balanced. We have got a lot of children leaving the dining room with happy faces and empty plates, which is a good sign.”
