A WORCESTER man has pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance, no licence and – for the fifth time – obstructing a police officer.

Ibrar Hussain was stopped by police as he drove a Honda Prelude on the M5 on Friday, September 10, at 3.20am.

But he lied about his name and address when asked – only telling the truth when officers said they were going to fingerprint him in order to confirm his identity.

Hussain, of Fort Royal Lane, Fort Royal, then admitted his true identity and the fact that he did not have a licence or any insurance.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting, told Worcester Magistrates Court that this was not the first time the 26-year-old had appeared on similar charges.

He already had four counts of obstructing a police officer, four counts of no insurance, two counts of driving without a licence and two counts of driving while disqualified on his record.

Gary Harper, defending, said: “He is ashamed he did not put his brain in gear when he put the car in gear. It was just stupidity.

“It is right, his record is not a very good one – when police stop him, he panics. If he would have thought about it for a second he would have realised.”

Mr Harper said that Hussain was getting married in November and – in his experience – marriage tended to calm people down and stop them offending.

“Often being married is a stabilising factor and he won’t find himself back before the court,” Mr Harper told magistrates. Hussain was given a community order for 12 months with 120 hours unpaid work, eight penalty points and a fine of £100, as well as £100 costs.
