TWO brothers went into a jewellers shop with a stolen £1,000 dinner service after the burglary of an 81-year-old woman's home in Droitwich.

But Brett and Richard Dunn and an accomplice were captured on CCTV as they tried to sell the goods.

The shopkeeper in Harvey's in Kidderminster examined the items and told the trio to return later after the Royal Doulton set had been valued.

Bungling Brett Dunn gave his contact details and the brothers were arrested, Worcester Crown Court heard. The third man was not identified.

Brett Dunn, aged 21, of Belvedere Crescent, Bewdley, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods.

Richard Dunn, 26, of Eastfield Close, Fernhill Heath, near Worcester, admitted assisting in their retention.

Judge Michael Cullum said the pensioner had been caused "enormous distress" by the crime and would never be able to forget it.

He gave both men 18-month community orders. He also ordered Brett Dunn to undergo a 12-month drug rehabilitation course.

The burglary of a garage adjoining the pensioner's house in Manor Close, Droitwich, happened on January 4 this year.

The victim woke to discover her dinner service missing. The same afternoon the culprits were filmed on CCTV, said Ian Speed, prosecuting.

Brett Dunn had been engaged in a five-year struggle with heroin, the catalyst for the crime, said his counsel Nick Berry.

Ben Mills, for Richard Dunn, said he had already served the equivalent of six months in custody for breaching his bail conditions.
