A CYCLING marathon to aid Pakistan flood victims is being held in Worcestershire next month.

Last February, Malvern Joggers ran a 10-hour marathon relay run up the Worcester Beacon in the Malvern Hills to raise more than £3,000 and buy four shelter boxes to send to victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Now they are at it again, but this time they are getting on their bikes to raise money for the Pakistan Floods Appeal. On Saturday the joggers will be organising a 10-hour cycling marathon around the hills called Cycling for Survival.

The six-and-a-half mile road route starts from the Chase Inn, Upper Colwall, heads for the Malvern Hills Hotel and then returns via Malvern Wells and the Wyche Cutting.

Individual cyclists or teams of all ages and abilities are welcome to join in and cycle one – or as many – laps as they want. The quickest might do it in less than half-an-hour, but there is no emphasis on speed. Participants will be set on their way at half-hourly intervals to complete the course in whatever time they choose.

The event runs from 8am until 6pm with refreshments being provided by the Chase Inn throughout the day.

Organiser Steve Ollis said: “The response to our Running for Survival event in the spring was fantastic and a good time was had by everybody. Now we want to do the same again, this time raising vital funds for the victims of the Pakistan floods.”

Anyone who wants to take part in the Cycling for Survival event can simply turn up on the day and make a donation of at least £10 to the DEC Pakistan Floods Appeal. Or to guarantee a particular half-hour starting time, simply contact Steve Ollis by emailing him on steveo@malvernjoggers.co.uk or phoning 07969 625457.
