COLOURFUL characters from Cinderella dazzled youngsters on Worcester’s High Street.

The performers were out and about drumming up interest in this year’s pantomime at the city’s Swan Theatre.

Wide-eyed youngsters were treated to the sight of Buttons, the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming, Baron Hardup and Cinders herself outside the Guildhall on Saturday.

Ugly sisters Kim and Aggie were also on hand to heckle unsuspecting passersby and squirt water from their gold and silver costumes.

Pink and blue balloons were handed out by the theatre’s youth group.

Ben Humphrey, who plays Buttons, said it would be a family-friendly production with lots of audience participation.

He said: “We try and keep it family orientated so three or four generations can have a good time.”

The pantomime is presented by Worcester Live and Chris Jaeger, who is writer and director, said he would be faithful to the traditional story.

“Cinderella is always the best known and loved pantomime,” he said. “People can look forward to horrible, mean, nasty ugly sisters, a handsome Prince Charming and beautiful Cinderella, lots of singing and dancing and fun and maybe a bit of water squirting.” The pantomime will run from Thursday, December 2, to Sunday, January 2, at the theatre in The Moors.
