Summer Weather Part 2

Summer Weather Part 2 Summer Weather Part 2

ANTICYCLONES are regions of subsiding air, they usually bring settled weather conditions, although if any location lie on the perimeter more cloud can be expected. Even in summer mist and fog can form in the centre of such highs due to clear night time skies and calm conditions. In summer any early morning-tide mist or fog are quickly burned off by the strong summer sunshine.

Temperatures can rise to very high values, especially in mid summer when the wind comes in from between east, south-east or south. If the wind filters in from the south-west more moisture is picked up creating warm cloudy humid conditions, we call this airmass a Tropical Maritime air, it's originated from the Tropics and crossed the ocean.

Due to the fact that the UK borders the Atlantic we often experience very muggy weather in summer with high humidity values. The hottest and sunniest weather occurs when we pick up airflows from the south/south-east. Gloucestershire and the Worcestershire basin often logs the highest temperature in the UK when the wind comes in from that direction, air rises over the Cotswolds and subside down slope into this area, drying out and warming up as it does so (fohn effect).
