A FORMER Worcester schoolgirl has beaten European competition to win a top award for her degree studies.
Helen Boffey received the Lloyd’s Register Award for the best maritime technology student at the 2010 SET (Science, Engineering and Technology Student of the Year) awards.
Miss Boffey, a student at Oxford University, won the award for her work on the modern materials solutions for the inclined plane boat lift at Foxton Locks.
Before attending Oxford University, Miss Boffey attended the Alice Ottley School, now RGS Worcester. Her win was announced at a ceremony attended by 450 students, academics, and business leaders in London’s Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.
Entries were received from major universities in Europe, and judges paid tribute to the exceptional quality of the work entered this year. The SET Awards are organised by the Leadership Forum.
