“YOU may eat the bride” – these are the words a zombie-mad couple will hear when they renew their vows in Worcester this weekend.

Andy and Tracey Mon-aghan will have been married seven years by the end of next month but they have decided to do it all again because their big day, a traditional affair, was a big disappointment.

In front of an altar made of skulls, the voodoo master – wearing a suit made of ‘skin’ – will take his corpse bride wearing a black and red dress before the third annual zombie walk through Wor-cester city centre gets under way on Sunday.

Mr Monaghan is an organiser of the event which raises money and awareness for the ME Association.

It is a cause close to his heart because Tracey suffers from the illness.

He said: “When we actually got married at the end of November it wasn’t the greatest weather, Tracey had a cold and basically anything that could go wrong went wrong.

“We didn’t really enjoy it the first time around so this is an opportunity to do something a bit special and do it the way we want to do it.

“This time it will be our special day because the wedding was more for our parents.”

Mr Monaghan, aged 36, of the Arboretum, Worcester, said he met his wife when they were both working at a charity shop in Pump Street.

“It just goes to show you never know what you will find when you have a rummage in a charity shop,” he said.

Mr Monaghan said he “warped” Tracey’s mind and now the 29-year-old full-time mum and housewife is “completely hooked” on zombies.

A friend of Mr Monaghan’s, dressed as a zombie vicar, will conduct the service upstairs in Lloyds Bar, Crown Passage, off Broad Street, Worcester, at midday on Sunday.

The undead guests, including the couple’s six-year-old son William, who is best man, will get to sing along to cult hit Your Brains by Jonathan Coulton before spilling out onto the streets and shuffling their way through the city centre.

More than 100 people are expected to take part in the zombie walk but people will need to register from 11am and guests of all ages and abilities can get face paint applied for a £3 charity donation.

On completion of the walk food will be available at Lloyds at disounted prices for all the zombies before a film is shown and a new zombie role-playing game is launched.

The survivors of that will go on to play for prizes in a final game later in the day but before that a raffle will be drawn and the Zombie of the Year will be crowned.

People can also enter a spot the difference competition with a prize of £30 novelty contact lenses by picking up entry forms from the Party Shop, Angel Place, or downloading it from monnysmortuary.com before Thursday.
