A 31-year-old man threatened to pull a four-year-old disabled boy from his wheelchair and kill him, a court was told.

Christian Bond was drunk when he yelled a tirade of abuse outside the home of young Jonty Smith in Pershore.

As previously reported in your Worcester News, brave Jonty has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and left hemiplegia – meaning the limbs of his left side are severely weakened.

His family and friends are currently campaigning to raise the £8,858 needed for a new powered wheelchair.

At Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday, Bond pleaded guilty to a public order offence of using threatening, abusive words or behaviour.

Sarah Stock, prosecuting, explained how Bond’s parents live opposite the Smith family.

Mrs Stock told the court how a drunken Bond stood outside the Smith’s home in the early hours of Saturday, October 9, shouting and swearing.

“Mr Bond’s mother has had both her legs amputated,” said Mrs Stock.

“This seemed to be on his mind that night.

“The family was woken up by the defendant’s shouting. The abuse was so loud another family living nearby woke up.

“He was shouting and swearing. He said, ‘I’m going to kill you. I’ll kill your son. If I see him in a wheelchair, I’ll rip him out of it and kill him’.”

Mr Smith, who watched Bond from an upstairs window, told police the threats gave him goosebumps and made his stomach turn.

District judge Bruce Morgan told Bond, of Cornmore in Pershore, that he was considering a prison sentence and adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report.

The next hearing will take place on Friday, November 19. He was granted bail on the conditions he resides at his home address, adheres to a curfew and stays out of Farleigh Road, Pershore.

Jonty’s mum Jane Smith-Keen said she now hoped Bond would “get himself sorted out, and worry about himself and his own family”.

“It’s upset us all but there’s no point in holding a grudge as it just doesn’t help, does it,” she added.
