SIR – Re the closing of Aconbury story in the Worcester News (November 5).

I would like to congratulate chief executive John Rostill for making the correct decision with the closing of Aconbury at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

These terrible wards have been used as a dumping ground for the elderly for too long.

It’s wasted money and they are not needed. I am sure most people will agree that elderly people recover far better in their own environment, even those with no relatives.

With good communication and teamwork from GPs, district nurses and homecarers, who all do a wonderful job, it will work.
