A SCHOOLGIRL who will soon face surgery to remove a brain tumour has enjoyed a birthday party fit for a princess.

We previously reported how Katherine Lowe, mother to Lucy, wanted her daughter to enjoy her eighth birthday surrounded by her friends and family.

Lucy has a brain tumour the size of a 50p above her left eyebrow and faces major surgery to remove it.

Doctors do not know whether the growth is cancerous but hope removing it will relieve the pressure on her brain, which is now causing epilepsy.

Yesterday, excited youngsters packed the Mews suite at the Drum and Monkey in Upton-upon-Severn for the pink and sparkly do.

The children, many of them Lucy’s fellow pupils at Powick Primary School, danced to music at a disco and enjoyed party food before singing a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday.

Pink balloons decorated the room and Lucy, dressed in a pink princess dress and tiara, was presented with a cake in the shape of a Barbie princess surrounded by sparklers.

The youngster wore a long hairpiece which Mrs Lowe, of Queensmead, Upton, said was in preparation for when she will lose her hair before the operation.

Mrs Lowe said: “I wanted her to have something in her memory that will remind her of how much everybody loves her.

“There’s a guestbook going around so everyone can give her good luck messages for the hospital.

“She will be able to read everyone’s messages while she’s in there.”

Many items at the party were donated by well-wishers after a report featured in your Worcester News.

At the party, Mrs Lowe, a single mum-of-three, was also presented with a cheque for £1,000 for Lucy’s rehabilitation fund.

Nicola Hewer raised the money doing a sponsored 10K mud run at Eastnor castle.
