ORGANISERS behind ambitious plans for a Malvern skate park are to begin campaigning in earnest for a plot of land for the project.

TG's Project is aiming to create a purpose-built park in the town in memory of Malvern skateboarder Tim Greenwood, who died of leukaemia in 2003.

Earlier this year project organisers were awarded a grant to fund a brochure setting out the project along with detailed artist's impressions.

Now a first draft of the glossy four-page brochure has been drawn up and project organisers are skimming through it with the aim of having a final draft completed in three weeks or so.

About 2,000 are then to be distributed to schools, organisations and businesses and potential sponsors of the scheme with an opportunity for them to write back and express their views.

Project spokeswoman Jan Bradford said they had identified a site in the town which they felt was ideal because of its size and location but that they could not reveal it at the moment as they were in negotiations with landowners.

Once the brochures have gone out the project team is aiming to begin a campaign to get as much support for the scheme as possible and urge people to write in in favour of it. Ms Bradford said: "We're encouraged and really excited by how it's going and the brochures look really fantastic.

"This is only the start of it though and now we have to start the campaigning.

"We really want the whole community to get behind it because we think it's such a fantastic project."

The development would comprise ramps, internet access, advice sessions and music as well as a café and chill-out area.

The project organisers had initially been looking at five or six sites in the town but narrowed it down to one earlier this year.

Fund-raising has yet to start for the project as organisers were concentrating on identifying a suitable site first.
