THE family of a woman knocked off her scooter has been keeping a vigil at her bedside in intensive care.

Seb Dayus was seriously injured after being thrown from her Piaggio scooter in the crash on Brickfields Road, Worcester.

Husband Swifty Bignan said the 42-year-old is yet to regain consciousness but is now breathing by herself and her condition is improving.

Ms Dayus, a maintenance worker at the YMCA, had a broken left leg and bruising to her chest, lungs and kidneys following the crash with a Renault Megane that was turning into Walnut Avenue at 5pm last Thursday.

Ms Dayus, of Langdale Drive, Warndon, who was on her way home from work, also had a 10cm (4in) gash to her other leg.

Doctors are hopeful she may have escaped serious head injuries but say they will not know for sure until she regains consciousness.

The car driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution although she was not thought to be seriously hurt.

Mr Bignan said he arrived at the scene of the crash just as his wife was being carried into an ambulance and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The couple have only been married since September.

He said: “A witness who was parked at the side of the road said she hit the windscreen and rolled off the car and the front went over her left leg, breaking it.

“He was a first aider so he jumped straight out of his car to help.

“I was at home and a friend knocked on the door.

“I just said, ‘where?’ and jumped on my pushbike.

“When I got there she was on the stretcher. The scooter is completely written off."

Mr Bignan said he was told the car driver was a woman who was about six months pregnant.

His wife has been sedated since the crash but doctors were trying to bring her round yesterday.

Mr Bignan, a demolition worker, said: “She’s in a lot of pain but she’s a fighter.”

He set up a Facebook page called Seb’s Recovery after being inundated with questions about her from well-wishers.

He said: “Within three days it’s got over 600 friends on there.

“If I didn’t have all these friends around I don’t know what I would have done.

“People have even arranged a benefit night for her on March 25 because she loves dancing and music.

“Her family have been amazing too.”

The benefit will be at 7.30pm at Sketchley’s bar, Weir Lane, Worcester.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to call officers on 0300 333 3000 or speak, anonymously, to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
