ARE you beginning to look and feel your age after a long festive season and a very cold winter? Here are a few hints and tips from Inkberrowbased Dr Hauschka’s Elizabeth King for a natural approach to ageing skin.

Avoid pulling and tugging

The muscles of your face do not have the secure bone-to-bone attachment like the muscles found elsewhere in the body. This allows us to have facial expression and, of course, to speak. But as we age, muscles less easily return to their original position. When applying your moisturisers, warm the cream up in your hands first before gently pressing on to your face with soft flat hands, smoothing out to ensure complete coverage while being careful not to pull and stretch the skin.

Try Facial Gymnastics with a Dr Hauschka esthetician. These exercises will improve muscular tone and thereby firm the facial muscles of the skin.

Avoid oil-based creams at night

At night your skin busily eliminates wastes via the pores, a process which is hindered by oilbased night care, leading to puffiness, tired looking grey skin or in some cases a rash-like appearance of spots. Replace your oily night cream with fluid-based preparations such as Dr Hauschka’s range of oil-free night care preparations, for example, Regenerating Serum.

Eye care – work with the lymph

The lymphatic pathways around the eye area are very delicate and lie very superficially. They perform the important function of decongesting the eye area and removing wastes following cellular activity. A sluggish or overloaded lymph means puffy eyes. Only apply eye cream during the day, as this is when the area needs extra protection.

Warm and cool compressing for radiance

Begin cleaning by applying a warm compress to your skin. This not only relaxes your skin in preparation for deep-pore cleansing but also brings blood to the surface and so delivers oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

Complete your cleansing with a cool compress, this contrast in temperature with the warmth stimulates the lymphatic system.
