AN eight-year-old girl has astounded everybody with her recovery following two successful operations to remove a brain tumour.

Lucy Lowe, of Upton-upon-Severn, was diagnosed with a tumour above her left eyebrow last year and surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital are confident they have removed all of it.

She returned home on December 23, five days after the final operation, and such was her recovery that she was back at Powick Primary School on Monday, January 10, and has been swimming, taken part in PE lessons and has told all of her classmates and the rest of the school her amazing story.

Her mum Katherine Lowe said: “It was the best Christmas present we could have had.

"She is completely back to her old self, a bright and sparkly little girl.

“It has gone better than we had ever imagined. I had expected her to be off school until the spring but she was straight back in there.

"She doesn’t sleep at all during the day now and her appetite is back.

“She did not cry or complain once even though she could not open her eyes as they were bruised and black and she had staples in her head.”

Powick Primary School headteacher Richard Drewett said Lucy’s recovery had been “really remarkable”.

He said: “She has taken off where she left off before the problems and has been fully involved and shown no signs of issues with concentration and drowsiness.

“I can only hope and pray that the surgeons have done a great job and removed the tumour without damaging any of her brain that would impact on her learning.”

Lucy has been left with a 20cm scar either side of her eyebrow and had about 40 metal staples in her head.

She will remain on medication for the next 12 months.

The Lowes are now awaiting the biopsy results on January 28.
