A TEENAGER who launched a tirade of racist abuse outside a Worcester curry house said a member of staff there had assaulted her friend.

Victoria McClean, of Brookthorpe Close, Warndon, Worcester, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated public disorder when she appeared before magistrates in the city.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said the 18-year-old approached a police car which was stationary at traffic lights in Deansway at 1.30am on Sunday, October 17.

She led the officers to a disturbance outside Massalla Lounge in Broad Street, where she said a male had been assaulted.

About eight Asian males were standing outside the restaurant and two females were shouting at them, Mr Dodson said.

He added: “Victoria McClean began shouting and waving her arms around. She was clearly intoxicated.”

McClean then shouted racist abuse at the Asian men calling them “dirty” and saying they should “go back to their own country”.

Officers tried to calm her down before she was arrested and taken to Worcester police station.

In interview, she admitted shouting racist abuse because she was upset by the assault.

Mark Turnbull, defending, explained to the court how McClean was given a youth rehabilitation order in June last year which she was complying with and was due to be sentenced in May this year for a criminal damage matter.

Mr Turnbull said: “The youth offending service are pleased with the progress she is making and she is engaging well with them.

“She has only just turned 18 and has had a difficult past few years, reliant on her own means for accommodation with no support from family throughout her teenage years.

“Miss McClean accepts her behaviour outside the restaurant was entirely inappropriate.”

Magistrates decided to defer sentence until Tuesday, May 3, to tie in with the criminal damage matter.
