TWO motorcyclists were caught travelling over the speed limit on the same stretch of country road on the same day.

Luke Orton was clocked doing 57mph on his Yamaha motorbike on the A443 at Abberley, near Tenbury, where the speed limit is 30mph, on August 8 last year.

The 21-year-old was fined £400, had six penalty points added to his previously clean licence and was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge when he appeared before magistrates in Worcester on Thursday.

Orton, of Harman Road, Sutton Coldfield, told the court he had been taking a ride with his ex-girlfriend.

Orton, a self-employed carpenter, said: “Sorry. I shouldn’t have been speeding.

"Conditions were light and there was not that much on the road. If I lost my licence I would lose my job and my money.”

Russell Smith, aged 55, of Barnes Hill, Birmingham, was also clocked on the A443 on August 8 last year, travelling at 51mph in a 30mph road on his Yamaha motorbike.

Smith, a self-employed mechanic, said: “I was shocked to receive notice of this offence. I would never knowingly speed in any circumstances. I’m sorry.”

He was fined £400 and six penalty points were added to his licence, taking the total to nine as he had three points from a previous speeding offence.

He was told to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
