POLICE have said the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman on a Worcestershire railway line are "not suspicious".

The woman was found in the early hours of this morning after having been hit by a train near to Bromsgrove railway station.

West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Mercia and the British Transport Police were all called to the line at 3.02am.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "From the outset, it was clear nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers attended the line near to Bromsgrove railway station on Monday, 14 February following a report of a body on the railway line.

“Officers from BTP and West Mercia Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 3.02am.

“West Midlands Ambulance service also attended and the body of a woman was found at the scene.

“The incident was initially being treated as unexplained but officers are now satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

“Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the woman.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
