A Worcester school has been left devastated after one of its pupils was killed by a train.

Pupils and staff arrived at RGS Worcester were told today that 15-year-old Natasha MacBryde’s body had been discovered on a railway line near Bromsgrove.

Natasha - a Year 10 pupil - was hit by the train near Bromsgrove railway station in the early hours of this morning.

The school, in the Upper Tything, allowed pupils in Natasha’s year group to go home early as they struggled to come to terms with the news.

A letter to parents from headteacher Andy Rattue described the devastation the school felt.

“Natasha was a charming and lovely girl and model pupil in every way,” wrote Mr Rattue.

“She will be missed by so many people, staff and pupils alike. It is very difficult to come to terms with such a tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to her parents and family.”

The letter said the school had created a quiet space where friends of the teenager could retreat to, and had pastoral staff and the school chaplain, the Revd Stuart Currie, on duty to help pupils with their grief.

“We have also created a space within the school, where people can leave items in Natasha’s memory,” the letter said.

British Transport Police have said Natasha’s death was not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman said: “The incident was initially being treated as unexplained but officers are now satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.”

Natasha’s body is expected to be formally identified tomorrow before the Worcestershire Coroner is officially informed.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for the service said: "From the outset, it was clear nothing could be done to save the woman."
