A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a man was found at a house in Evesham.

The 53-year-old man, who is yet to be identified, was found at a house in Brick Kiln Street in the town centre at about 10.45am on Sunday.

Police were still at the scene yesterday afternoon and had cordoned off the area.

People working nearby have spoken of their shock after hearing a murder investigation has been launched.

Tracy Kinnersley, who works at Lawrence’s Bakery in the High Street – which backs on to Brick Kiln Street – said she saw the cordon on her way into work yesterday morning.

“It’s a shock if it’s a murder and it’s happened in Evesham,” she said.

“You don’t expect it in a small market town like this.”

Adrian Nash, a member of bar staff at the Gardener’s Arms in nearby Littleworth Street, said: “We came in and saw the police banners and we were wondering what had happened. It was a bit of a shock when we heard it had been a killing.”

Police said a post-mortem examination has been carried out on the body and a formal identification of the victim would take place in “due course”.

Officers arrested a woman on Sunday on suspicion of murder and she remains in custody at Worcester police station while enquiries continue.

Temporary Det Supt Paul Williamson, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to stress that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death but would like to appeal for witnesses who may have information that will assist with our enquiries.

“I would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard a disturbance or anything suspicious in the Brick Kiln Street area between around midnight on Saturday and 11am the following day.”

Anyone with information should call police on 03003 333000, quoting 143/S/130211, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
