A FORMER Worcester University student has published her first children’s novel.

Jayn E Winslade’s Emily & Jen Dance for Deeron blends folklore, fantasy, dance and music into a magical adventure of good versus evil and enduring friendship.

It is suitable for anyone over eight, but can also be enjoyed by adults.

Mrs Winslade – a trained dancer who now lives in Dingle Road, Leigh, near Worcester – said: “Dance has always been a driving force for me as well as writing.

“One day I saw something that inspired me to bring the two passions together – I saw six antlers hanging in a village church in Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire.

“After researching the origins of the horn dance my mind began to ponder – what if something magical happens as the dance takes place; something that mere mortals cannot see?

“Emily and Jen are not mere mortals, and it is their dance that gives them the power to enter the world of magic.”

Jayn’s husband Simon Winslade has written a piece of orchestral music for the book entitled The Deeron Suite, which will be available on iTunes later in the year.

Mrs Winslade will be signing copies of her book at Waterstones in The Shambles, Worcester, between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.
