A MALVERN man has sent a letter to a government minister about proposals to cut disabled people’s mobility allowance.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is being reviewed and thousands of people fear the mobility component might be removed for those who live in local authority-funded residential care.

Members of the Lichfield Forum, which is made up of a group of people who are supported at several Elizabeth FitzRoy Support services including one in Malvern, have written to Maria Miller, minister for disabled people, to express their concerns that the changes might result in people being stuck in their care homes.

The letter which has been signed by John Brown, a resident at Elizabeth FitzRoy Support in Malvern, on behalf of all the members of the forum said: “We are also worried that disabled people will not be given enough money to have a good life and that they will not be able to do the things that they want.

“People with a disability should have the chance to be included in their local community and this change could stop them doing that.”
