THE trial of a man accused of murdering his five-year-old daughter by driving a car into a river was adjourned yesterday.

Chris Grady, aged 42, has pleading not guilty to a charge of murder and attempted murder after it is alleged he deliberately drove into the river Avon in Evesham on February 11 last year with his two children in the car.

Gabby Grady, who was trapped under water for two hours, died at hospital three days after the incident.

Ryan, now aged seven, was rescued by police officers who dived in to save him.

The trial, which started at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, was due to hear evidence yesterday from Grady’s former partner and the children’s mother Kim Smith.

However, a matter unable to be discussed in open court forced an adjournment until 10.30am today.

Mr Justice Lindblom told the jury the issue was nobody’s fault but the trial could not proceed until it had been resolved.

The trial is expected to last for about two weeks.
