HELP is desperately needed for a charity ball which supports community events for the young and old.

Mayor of Droitwich Lynne Duffy is hosting her charity ball on Friday, March 25, but she needs the help of townspeople to ensure good causes get the aid they need.

To make sure all the money raised by the event goes to charity she needs cash to pay for a live band, flowers, table decorations and linen.

Her chosen charities to benefit from the ball are the Royal British Legion’s Droitwich branch and community halls Chawson Barns in New Chawson Lane and the Westlands Community Association’s in Farmer’s Way.

But up to £500 is needed to cover the cost of their band The Disciples, £100 for floral decorations and table centrepieces and £100 for linen hire. Raffle prizes are also needed.

Coun Duffy said times were tough for everybody – but without funding the charities would struggle to help and support townspeople.

“No matter how small, any donation towards this event would be gratefully received,” she said.

Coun Duffy said she had tried to keep costs down for the event at Droitwich Royal British Legion club in Salwarpe Road but putting on a good bash meant spending some money.

“The more costs we can cover the more money raised will go to the good causes,” she said.

Coun Duffy said people were familiar with the support the legion gives to former and serving service men and women and their families.

“I picked Chawson Barns and the Westlands community hall because neither get any public funding but provide vital community services like nursery groups, older people’s get-togethers, and space for events and local clubs,” she said.

“They are both in areas of the town which are fairly isolated where people either need to catch a bus or get in a car to get into town so supporting them directly helps the people in these communities.”
