STANDING in a barrel and covered in treacle, this shop worker caused quite a stir on Worcester’s High Street yesterday.
Shoppers were stunned to see Catherine Wilson smothered in thick black molasses outside the city’s Guildhall.
But it was all part of a campaign by a local shop to ban Canadian tar sands oil from being used in Europe.
Campaigners say exploiting the tar sands destroys the environment and poses a health risk.
They have also been handing out leaflets detailing the potential impact of the method of turning tar sands into oil which they call “the most destructive project on Earth”.
The European Parliament is considering a ban on oil from tar sands being used in Europe under the Fuel Quality Directive and the campaigners have been urging people to contact their MEP to back this.
