ATTEMPTS to get funding for the parish lengthsman to do some litter-picking in Kempsey, near Worcester, have proved frustrating for the parish council.

Complaints about litter were raised by residents during the preparation of the parish plan.

In an attempt to address the problem, the council wants Malvern Hills District Council to release some of the funds allocated for litter picking in the parish, so that the lengthsman can be employed to do it.

But chairman Ray Ellis said the district council's reply was not very satisfactory.

It stated that one person was employed to deal with litter and fly-tipping throughout the district and needed to be able to provide a quick response where particular problems arose.

In addition, the road sweeping team picked up litter as part of their duties. This information was greeted with disbelief by members of the parish council.

Kim Biddle suggested residents should be reminded that people in the village were the ones making the litter.

It was agreed to ask for the issue of litter picking by lengthsmen to be included in the agenda for the September meeting of the Malvern Hills branch of the County Association Of Local Councils.
