THREE firefighters have been commended for their brave actions in trying to rescue a five-year-old girl from a freezing Worcestershire river.
Gabby Grady was trapped in a submerged car for two hours after her father Chris Grady drove into the river Avon in Evesham on February 11, last year.
Grady, aged 43, was jailed for life at Birmingham Crown Court last month and will serve at least 15 years in prison.
Firefighter Jason Mayhew has been awarded Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Authority’s Outstanding Service Medal by Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates.
As previously reported, Mr Mayhew made numerous attempts to rescue Gabby from the sinking car.
Station Commander David Holland and Watch Commander Julian Jenkins have been awarded the Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation.
