A GIRL group has narrowly clinched the Text Factor crown in a nail-biting final.

After 12 weeks of tough competition, Elements – Worcester’s Diana Bowden and Katie Harris, along with Birmingham’s Laura Edwards – impressed the crowd and judges at the annual event at Sin Bar, New Street, Worcester, walking away with £2,500.

They fought off the challenge of Benny Jay, who came in second place, a point behind.

It is all the more impressive considering the fact the group has only been together since December, after forming from the ashes of last year’s competition.

Miss Bowden explained: “Katie and I met when we both took part in Text Factor last year as solo singers.

“We formed quite a lovely bond and thought it would be nice to get a girl group together.”

It was one of last year’s judges – Steve Maitland – who put them in touch with Ms Edwards so they could become a trio.

Now they intend to use their winnings to reinvest in the band, getting their first demo recorded and hopefully find a manager.

“The competition has been an amazing stepping stone,” said Miss Bowden. “It is great for getting your confidence up when you are performing every week.”

The group has already been offered the chance to play again by former Text Factor contestant and first-time judge Tina V, whose band This Wicked Tongue are hosting a night at the Marr’s Bar on Friday, April 29.

“The quality this year was as good as any other year,” she said.

“The girls are really nice and have been lined up to play at Manchester’s Gay Pride later this year.”
