A SMALL Worcester primary school is brimming with excitement as pupils watch an ex-student dance in a TV competition.

The children at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Primary School in St John’s have been avidly watching the progress of Katie Love in the BBC One competition So You Think You Can Dance?.

And Miss Love, a 24-year-old contemporary dancer, has an even stronger link to the school in the form of teaching assistant Laurie Griffin – her second cousin.

Mrs Griffin said: “There is massive excitement here. We are a primary school, so in the children’s eyes she is a celebrity. For them to think she actually came to this school is huge. They are all voting.”

This week four dancers will leave the show – meaning Miss Love needs support from her home now more than ever. At least she knows she can rely on her family, who are clearly backing her all the way.

Mrs Griffin said: “She is doing really well and it is fantastic to see her on there. I think she’s going to be absolutely fine – the judges seem to love her.” Miss Love has been filming in Wales this week with her partner, hip hop dancer Lee C. So You Think You Can Dance? is on tonight at 5.30pm.
