TWO Lithuanian men have been arrested on suspicion of fraud and theft after claiming to be collecting charity bags for the air ambulance.

Nice one! It's about time these people were exposed. I never leave bags out for collection anymore, would rather take them directly to the shops. Look forward to reading the full story tomorrow.

Surely if they break our laws they should be deported, and their work permits with drawn.

For legal reasons it's important to note that the two men in the video are simply 'alleged' to be involved in the kind of activity this story refers to. Nothing has been heard in the courts so they are, of course, innocent of any crime until it is proven otherwise.

It's because of people like these that I no longer put any clothes out. You've no idea who you can trust.

We get quite a few like this where I live. They wear fluorescent jackets to make themselves look official.

I once received a supposed charity leaflet which I thought was fraudulent. There was no such charity number registered (on the web.) I reported it to Trading Standards (TS), and was asked to keep an eye out for them. When I saw the 'gang' in our street, I rang TS, and quoted the VRN and said I would apprehend the two males, and ask who they work(ed) for. Suddenly there was a sucking of corporate teeth down the phone "Well, there are legal implications and we have to be careful, yadda, yadda.." I replied "You either want to stop them, or you don't which is it?" I walked on, and they carried on with their thieving! Go figure.

Sorry, Allan, that won't be possible - Lithuania is an EU member country so they don't need work permits or visas.

Being a Male, I am wrong again, however, there will be some rules that allows us to ban any proven law breakers that are not actually UK citizens. No matter where they come from.

I have in the past taken clean used clothing to St Paul's Hostel, Now we are told that we must take the items to the Maggs Centre off Sansome walk, which isn't open 5 days. The last time I took 3 Bin liners of clothing there they were quickly seized (yes Seized) by 3 young Asian men who tipped them onto the floor then quickly sorted them into different piles which to me seemed based upon an estimated value, and I left somewhat uneasy.
Whatever the reason for this, I no longer take my usable clothes there and have informed the Hostel that I wanted to donate direct to them, but was told I cannot. So they now go into the clothing banks at the Tip.

I do take stuff to the Maggs Centre, but I also take stuff to the Red Cross shop on the Tything, because of all the charity shops around that's where I always get a 'thank you' and a smile and I am shallow like that.

i take mine directly to the shops, its a shame that these days people take advantage of charitable people for their own purpose.
