SIR – I felt that I must write and protest as to the axeing of the 300 and 334 bus services on Sundays. But before I give my reasons I must declare that I am a bus driver, who sometimes drives these services, which although they are one single service they are numbered differently for administrative purposes.

The main reason for not axing them is that this one service serves 13 separate villages and towns, namely Worcester, Hallow, Holt Heath, Holt Fleet, Ombersley, Crossway Green, Hartlebury, Stourport, Bewdley, Kidderminster, Chaddesley Corbett, Bromsgrove and Redditch.

Not to mention serving Kidderminster Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Can Worcestershire County Council give any reason for making the above mentioned communities and their inhabitants virtual prisoners on a Sunday, and thereby stopping anyone who does not have access to either a car, or can afford paying for a taxi, from visiting their relatives in hospital on Sundays, which of course is one of the busiest visiting days.

Surely the amount which will allegedly be saved is far outweighed by the social benefits which stem from keeping the service in operation; perhaps that is the reason, both Worcestershire County Council and Wyre Forest District Council are controlled by the Conservative party and they seem to shrink in horror from anything which even smacks of social benefits.

I therefore would ask all those who may or will be affected to put pen to paper and register their objection, remember you elected these councillors to serve you, and they should from time to time be reminded of that fact; so let us have a change of mind and rescind the axeing of this particular bus service.

JOHN LATHAM
Town councillor Deputy Mayor, Bewdley
