A TOP restaurant planned for Worcester is now set to open by the end of October.

There had been hopes that The Glasshouse, a joint venture between Michelin-starred chef Shaun Hill and city businessman Brandon Weston, would open this month, but work is taking longer than initially expected.

Work to renovate the former Bygones antique shop in Sid-bury is well under way and builders have finished the extension that will house the kitchen and toilets. However, work on the main building was delayed in the spring while planning issues over Victorian outbuildings were resolved.

There were further delays following major problems with the foundations, but these have now been resolved and the fitting out stage has begun.

The Glasshouse will be a 100-seat brasserie over two floors, with a courtyard dining area for use during the summer.

Mr Weston said "We are very pleased with progress and have a great team of builders and contractors working on site. At this stage, we are unable to commit to an opening date but are aiming for the doors to open before the end of October. The building lends itself very well to restaurant use and is really starting to come together."

Despite the reputation of Shaun Hill, the restaurant is not just aimed at the wealthy, according to Mr Weston.

He said: "The style of the new Glasshouse will be a buzzing brasserie offering excellent food and wine at realistic prices in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

"We aim to create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable, whether dressed casually and just popping in for a quick lunch, or dressed up celebrating a special occasion. It will be an everyday place that is not expensive or exclusive."
