FOR the first time, a Worcester gig night is going international.

The Bunker - which has gone from strength to strength since moving from Wednesdays to Fridays - is welcoming eastern European band Skambomambo to the stage next Friday, June 17.

The band hails from Szczcecin on the German/Polish border but, perhaps surprisingly, is fronted by a man neither Polish nor German.

Rather, singer Don Mario Cordina is of Maltese origin and has only lived in Poland since 1999.

What’s more, many of their songs are written mainly in English - although some are written in French, Italian and, of course, Polish.

Which makes Skambomambo a band with a truly international feel.

The seven-piece band have played all over Europe but this will be the first time they have toured in England, making it even more of a coup for the Bunker as other locations on their whistlestop tour includes places like the ever-popular Thekla in Bristol.

“I have heard so many great things about this band,” enthused Not Just Sauce’s Chris Bennion. “Their passion, their energy, their fantastic live show.

“We are privileged to have them play at Keystones for the Bunker.”

It is an incredibly exciting development for the night, which is run by Not Just Sauce and Backstage Promotions, which is getting interest from all around the country.

"We are really pleased with success of the Bunker since it started and we are now getting bands from all over the country, and even abroad, contacting us asking for gigs,” said Tony Gibbon, of Backstage Promotions. “Worcester has always been a hot bed of talent and it is great to see the support for new and up coming bands in the area.”

Bennion agreed.

"Not Just Sauce are looking to break new ground, promoting this live music night at The Bunker at Keystones and taking the Worcester scene to the next level,” he said.

“We are looking at working to give local acts a chance to get out and play to different audiences and bring new and exciting acts into the city.”
