WORCESTER’S favourite dancer could be crowned Britain’s favourite dancer tonight.

Katie Love is one of just four dancers to make it to the final of So You Think You Can Dance? who will be competing for the title Britain’s Favourite Dancer – and a £50,000 prize – on BBC One tonight.

But with the amount of support Miss Love has received from her home town already, it is clear she is already Worcester’s favourite dancer.

Both of Miss Love’s former schools – St Mary’s, Battenhall, and Our Lady Queen of Peace, St John’s, – have rallied behind her, as have her former dance school Academy Dance and WODYS, the theatre group of which she was a member.

Tonight, family and friends will gather at Old Chequers Inn, Crowle, to support Miss Love.

And now the Mayor of Worcester, Dr David Tibbutt, has joined the campaign to get as many people as possible voting for Miss Love, who has constantly impressed the judges with her talent.

Councillor Tibbutt said: “We wish her well from the whole city, which is rooting for her. Whatever happens she’s already a winner. I’m sure she stands a very good chance.”

Speaking earlier this week, Miss Love said she had been astonished by the support she had received.

“I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support from everyone and want to say a huge thank you to all who have voted over the last weeks,” said the 24-year-old. “Please keep voting for one more week. I intend to give Saturday night everything I have got to make it a great final for those watching at home and hope people will not be disappointed.

“The whole experience has been like a dream and I ‘ll be sorry for it to end.”

Mum Sue Love, who lives in Rushwick, said every extra vote made could be the vote which clinches the title.

“The support has been the most fantastic thing to come out of it and we are so grateful,” she said. “Just a few extra votes this week would be great.”
