A CHURCH in Worcestershire has had its funding prayers answered after receiving a grant of £20,000.

Severn Waste Services gave the money to St John the Baptist Church in Grafton Flyford via the Landfill Communities Fund.

The grant will be used to support vital repair work on the historic Worcestershire church, which dates in part to the 14th century.

John Griffiths, chairman of the church committee, said: “In the last 12 months, we’ve lost part of the church roof as a result of weathering and water damage, as well as experiencing falling masonry.

"Thanks to Severn Waste’s generosity, we can now rectify these problems and with their help, we’ll be able to secure the future of our beautiful church.”

Severn Waste Services’ financial director, Jim Haywood, said: “We’re pleased to be supporting this important project and we wish the church committee every success with its ongoing restoration programme.”

Anyone interested in supporting the campaign to renovate the church can call treasurer Edward Roberts on 01905 381875.
