A HEATWAVE brought soaring temperatures to Worcester at the weekend – but there are predictions for a cooler week ahead.

A peak of 28.3C (83F) was recorded in the city on Sunday, making it the hottest day of the year so far.

And many may have struggled to get a good night’s sleep as overnight temperatures did not dip below 16C (61F).

Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari said the heatwave was down to a “plume” of heat from Spain and France.

“The rest of the week is likely to be cooler and fresher,” he said.

“It looks like it will build back up again towards on Friday and Saturday to around 22-23C (71-73F).”

Mr Damari said June’s mixed weather patterns were likely to continue for the rest of the summer.
