A MUCH-loved footballer who died from a brain tumour will be remembered with a charity football match.

The charity fun day and memorial football match will take place at Archdales 73 Club in Windermere Drive, Worcester, on Saturday, August 6, in memory of local legend Andrew Grubb.

Mr Grubb was a former player at the club and also appeared for Bromsgrove Rovers, Malvern Town and Kidderminster Harriers during his career.

The 52-year-old father-of-two from Warndon, Worcester, died last July after an eight-month battle with a brain tumour.

The grandfather-of-three’s daughter, Jodie Rice, said: “Until dad was diagnosed, we knew nothing about brain tumours, but then we realised how little funds go into brain tumour research – less than one per cent of national cancer research spending – and yet brain tumours kill more children and people under the age of 40 than any other type of cancer.

“Now we want to help change this dreadful situation and hopefully see the discovery of far more effective treatments for brain tumours and, ultimately, a cure.

“We hope that this memorial event will attract lots of people and raise much-needed funds for Brain Tumour Research.”

The event, which kicks off at 3pm, will raise funds for the Brain Tumour Research and promises to be an afternoon of family fun, with attractions including a bouncy castle, face-painting, a coconut shy, hook-a-duck, football kick-out, cake stalls and balloon launch.

Visitors will also have the rare opportunity to watch the Archdales Legends take on Andy’s All Stars, consisting of players from Mr Grubb’s playing days, as well as family and friends.

Going into the evening, there will be live entertainment from Richie Webb of the Magoos and Rich Gormley, X-Factor hopeful, as well as a disco and auction.

Items on offer include a Manchester United signed football, a Liverpool FC stadium tour, a signed Worcester Warriors shirt and a spa day for two at Malvern Spa.

Tickets cost £5 and and can be bought by calling 01905 457878.
