GOOD grub and good beer are on the menu for the latest festival to be held in Worcestershire.

Thousands of foodies who prefer the simple things in life are expected to flock to Evesham next month as it hosts the inaugural Pie and Ale Festival.

The festival will be held in the market square and at Abbey Park on Saturday, September 17.

There will be a huge selection of pies, with ales for every taste.

The festival has been dreamed up by the Vale of Evesham Commerce and Tourism Association to bring a tourism and business boost to the town.

Entry is free and the feasting is due to begin at 11am.

A string of local food producers and award-winning local brewers, including Warwickshire-based Purity and Sadler’s from Stourbridge, as well as representatives from Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) will be at the event to point people in the right direction.

There will also be a host of family-friendly entertainment, including Morris dancing, ferret racing, Punch and Judy and a circus skills workshop.

An arts and crafts fair will be held in the town hall and the usual Saturday farmers’ market will add to the atmosphere, while a variety of local bands will take to the stage from 5pm.

Vicky Lawson, festival organiser, said: “Evesham was crying out for a festival like this to bring people to the High Street.

“There’s so much excellent produce in the area and we need to celebrate it and enjoy it as much as possible.

“But it won’t just be about great pies and real ale – there will be fun and games for all the family during the day and some fantastic live music later in the evening as well.”
