A WORCESTER man who sent threatening text messages to his ex-partner and threatened to kill her new boyfriend has been banned from contacting her by a restraining order.

Sam Brown, of Langdale Drive, Warndon, also “blew off” at Worcester police station after being charged for the offence.

The 26-year-old admitted harassment and a public order offence of using threatening words or behaviour.

Douglas Marshall, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Brown was jealous of Laura Thomasson’s new relationship.

Mr Marshall said: “Miss Thomasson is in another relationship. Mr Brown is jealous and takes exception to this.

“In a phone call Mr Brown referred to Miss Thomasson’s partner and said, ‘If you see him, tell him I’ll kill him.’”

Brown also sent a series of abusive text messages between Sunday, July 3, and Wednesday, July 6.

Brown was arrested on Thursday, July 7, but became angry at being charged, claiming he had received threatening messages himself.

Mr Marshall said: “Having being told he was going to be charged and remanded in custody, he changed from being calm to agitated and hysterical. He shouted ‘I’ll murder them, you’ll see’. He became very angry as he was the only person to be arrested.”

Barry Newton, defending, said the police did not look at the messages Mr Brown himself received because he had indicated a guilty plea.

Mr Newton said: “The words sledgehammer and nut spring to mind. Miss Thomasson herself has said there are arguments between the two but they usually get on ok.”

Passing sentence, chairman of the bench Michael Pilling, said: “This is a real saga, isn’t it? But not a very pleasant one. In the interests of your son this has to end. For the public order incident where you blew off at the police station you will be fined £50.”

For harassment Brown was given an 18-month conditional discharge. He was also ordered to pay £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A restraining order was granted prohibiting Brown from contacting Miss Thomasson unless via a solicitor.
