TWO more illegal immigrants are being deported after a raid on a Worcestershire restaurant.

Officers from the UK Border Agency raided the Raj Tandoori in Queen Street, Droitwich, and found two members of staff – a 35-year-old who had entered the UK illegally and a 22-year-old who had overstayed his visa – working there.

Both men are from Bangladesh and they are now in the process of being removed from the country while the restaurant faces a potential fine of up to £20,000 – £10,000 per illegal worker – unless it can prove the correct pre-employment checks were carried out.

Speaking to the Worcester News Azil Uddin, owner of Raj Tandoori, claimed he had been shown false documentation by the two men who started working at the restaurant about two weeks ago.

He said he would be sending any evidence he has to the border agency.

The raid mean there have been 17 arrests in recent weeks following a series of checks at various Indian and Chinese restaurants and takeaways in Worcester.

Immigration officer Nam Kalsi said: “Those who use and exploit illegal workers face severe financial penalties over and above the loss of business and negative publicity that enforcement visits like this causes.

“We are happy to help businesses ensure the right pre-employment checks are carried out but those intent on breaking the law should be warned that they will be found.”
