PEOPLE have been invited to learn how to live on their money rather than to just survive.

A new free course will offer people advice on how to manage their budgets better.

Charity Two Pennies Money Advice, previously called Community Advice Support and Help, along with Worcester Community Trust have organised six weekly sessions that will show people how to be in control of their income and their expenditure.

Neal Murphy, from Two Pennies, said the sessions, which start at the Tolly Centre, Rowan Avenue, Tolladine, Worcester, on Thursday, September 15, would be helpful to anyone.

He said: “It’s about things like finding out what’s going on not just day-to-day or month-by-month but over the year.

“For example, if you pay for your car tax annually then you need to save for it.

“We all think we’ll make up for it when we have a normal month but every month there’s birthdays, or parties, Christmas and all of a sudden there’s virtually never a normal month.

“It’s just being honest and realistic.“ Mr Murphy said that the idea of the course was to offer preventative and non-judgemental advice out in the community.

He said: “I’m sure there are a lot of people suffering in silence.

“Many do a day’s work and go home and watch TV because they can’t afford to do anything else.

“People might not like the prospect of going to a complete stranger who seems official, sitting behind glass windows, sat with a barrier between you and saying ‘I’ve screwed up’.

“That’s a huge step.

“If we can be out in the community running this course making things a bit more accessible it makes the first step a bit easier.”

Mr Murphy stressed people would not be required to reveal personal financial information.

The sessions will run from 12pm until 2pm.
