THERE will be a nostalgic trip back to the big hair days and disco nights of the 1980s as the life of a charity fund-raiser is celebrated.

Pauline Pestridge, her husband Alan and a handful of other volunteers ran a children’s disco on Wednesday evenings at Fernhill Heath Memorial Hall, near Worcester, and following the 64-year-old’s death from a rare form of cancer at St Richard’s Hospice in May, Mrs Partridge’s family has decided to revive the evening to raise funds for the charity.

Her daughters Nicky Peters and Karen Bradley said: “The discos were a great success and the children of the village had somewhere to go and have fun, many meeting their first loves. They are often spoken of fondly by those same children who are now adults and still living in the area.

“Mum was a keen organiser of events and parties for the Fernhill Health War Memorial Club – from coach trips to Yugoslavia, to Halloween, Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s nights and fancy dress parties to name just a few. We decided as the discos had been such fun we wanted to run an event again and have as many people as possible enjoy an evening of retro boogie.

“Although this evening is in memory of mum we want everyone to have a great time and remember when they were young and carefree, dancing to Dexys Midnight Runners and Culture Club.

“The event is open to all who want to enjoy a great night of 80s music.”

Tickets for the event on Friday, September 30, are available from the clubhouse behind the memorial hall or by calling 01905 451054.

Tickets costing £5 for adults, £2 children or £10 for a family can also be purchased on the day. Doors open at 8pm.
