YOUNGSTERS are being asked for their views on changes that could see some youth centres close.

Worcestershire County Council wants to know what young people, parents, carers and other interested parties think about plans to stop providing a traditional youth service by 2014.

Instead, the council wants to make arrangements with other bodies to provide services which are designed to meet local needs.

We previously reported how the county council is looking at cutting the Positive Activities budget from £2.5 million to £1.1 million over three years as it seeks to make up to £70 million savings by the year 2015.

The council says it will continue to provide £1 million annual investment in the activities themselves, though.

Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for children’s social care and safeguarding, said: “I really want anyone with an interest in Positive Activities to have their say.

All ideas will be listened to and this is your opportunity to shape the future of Positive Activities in the county.”

People have until September 30 to have their say using an online questionnaire at worcestershire.gov.uk/haveyoursay

Paper copies are also available in youth centres, libraries and at the Worcestershire Hubs.

Voluntary and community groups are also being invited to book a place at an event at County Hall, Worcester, between 10am and noon on Saturday, September 17.
