A MEMORIAL match helped raise thousands of pounds for charity in a fitting tribute to a Worcestershire footballing legend.

The charity fun day, which took place at Archdales 73 Club in Windermere Drive, Blackpole, Worcester, brought in £5,947 for Brain Tumour Research.

The event was held in memory of Andrew Grubb, a former player who also played for Bromsgrove Rovers, Kidderminster Harriers and Malvern Town.

Andrew died in July last year eight months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Richard Grubb got in touch with some of his brother’s former teammates to organise a memorial football match.

Such was the response, he had to organise the Legends into four teams. Jodie Rice, Andrew’s daughter, said the day was a total success.

She said: “I felt very proud of all my family and friends who helped on the day, including my uncle Richard, who did a great job as auctioneer.

“I was overwhelmed and very humbled by all who came and showed support for a very worthy charity.

“The incredible amount raised proves how special my dad was to so many.

“It was a brilliant, yet difficult day, but we were so glad to be able to help fund the fight against brain tumours.”

Jodie, her husband Neale, brother Neil and friend Luke Morris will be running in the Great South Run in October for Brain Tumour Research.
