KIDDERMINSTER Harrers manager Steve Burr hopes to have a new goalkeeper on board before next weekend’s trip to Barrow.

With Danny Lewis ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, former Birmingham City youngster Dean Lyness is the only keeper on Harriers’ books.

While Burr feels the 20-year-old is likely to be his number one on current form, the Aggborough boss is keen to have another custodian on board.

“I would say that I’m pretty close to signing another keeper,” Burr said. “I would like to think that it will be sorted by next Saturday.

“Dean has been excellent and is in pole position, but you do need to have another goalkeeper.

“It will be a permanent signing. To get a loan keeper in is very difficult because the club will be wanting them to play.

“I can’t guarantee that because of how Dean has been playing.”

Yet, despite aiming to have a new keeper on board by next weekend, Burr isn’t ruling out the possibility of signing someone ahead of Tuesday night’s home clash with Braintree Town.

But, with five players in the treatment room and right-back Lee Vaughan banned, his main focus is on not losing any more of his squad.

Harriers play at Darlington today (3pm) with only 17 fit and available players, including just four defenders.
